One Works, together with J + S, are pleased to present their exciting proposal for Cagliari Football Club’s new home, which will replace the existing Sant ‘Elia stadium.
Announced at a recent press conference by Cagliari Calcio President, Tommaso Giulini, all three finalists were invited to showcase their proposals at a special exhibition at Sardinia Arena. Open to the public, the exhibition invites fans and the local community to give their feedback on the proposed designs.
In collaboration with Portuguese architects Gonçalo Byrne and João Nunes, along with Deerns and Studio Majowiecki, Italian firms J + S and One Works have proposed a stunnning design that successfully interprets and transforms the four main requests of Cagliari Calcio. To deliver:
1. a stadium that reflects the history and pride of a Sardinia that looks to the future
2. an unrivalled fan experience that is capable of attracting a wide range of visitors
3. a scheme that represents economic and environmental sustainability
4. a catalyst for urban metamorphosis.
Designed to reflect the heritage and pride of the territory, the stadium will act as a ‘lighthouse’ for the region, attracting and hosting not only the fans, but all types of visitors beyond match days.
The iconic bandage of the Quattro Mori, truly charaterises the design and becomes a customisable skin that surrounds the structure of the bowl. Using the latest innovation in materials and digital technology, the proposed design will ensure the stadium is durable over time and flexible in capacity, whilst optimising both function and cost.
The proposed design will create a spectacular landmark that is recognisable from the city and the sea, for fans and the local community. A true ‘lighthouse’ that could not arise anywhere else in Italy, or even the world.
