Detailed design for the expansion programme including 12 stations

One Works was recently appointment to provide Detailed Design services for the Civil, Architectural and MEP Works for Phase II expansion of the Chennai Metro rail network.

As part of a JV with Metropolitana Milanese (MM), One Works has been appointed by Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) to deliver the detailed design for Phase II – Corridor 4 of the expansion programme. This includes approximately 9 kilometres of underground tunnels and the design of 12 underground stations from Lighthouse to Meenakslei College.

Chennai Metro Phase II has been designed to provide high capacity and efficient east-west connectivity through the center of Chennai by expanding the city’s existing metro system. The ambitious programme will spur economic growth, enable urban regeneration and to address some of Chennai’s high level urban challenges such as climate change and loss of green space due to rapid urbanization.

In addition, One Works has provided consultation services for the design of entry/exit structures at grade and surrounding improvements to public realm and streetscape, improving the legibility and integration of the new metro line in the existing city. Recommendations for station retail and adjacent transit-oriented development were also proposed to strengthen the potential of stations as catalysts for neighbourhood regeneration.
