Reinterpretation of a prestigious building built at the end of the Nineteenth century into a luxury 5 Star Hotel, located in the heart of the city center and just a few blocks from the Milan Stock Exchange.
A glass-enclosed cloister within the historical building’s roofline is the key concept behind the proposal. Lacking adequate footage for a reception hall, the glazed roof permits the building to gain an important public hall exalted by the presence of the facade’s ornamental elements and mosaic flooring.
The main means of public transport permit easy accessibility to the area; trams cover above ground movements while lines one and two of the Milanese Metro system run below. Equal distant from the Sforzesco Castle and Piazza Duomo, the area is convenient also by car and can rely on ample payment parking nearby.
The project enables the preservation of the building’s historical characteristics even though the superposition of two new floors wrapped with glass and metallic art works are part of the design concept. The floor’s distribution remains within the existing structure permitting wonderful views onto the inner courtyard, while rooms are located along the exterior facades. The upper floors, treated as a single unit, redefine the building’s elevations.
