Located in a wealthy catchment area on the western edge of the city of Bergamo with a catchment area of nearly 600,000 people, Curno Shopping Centre is becoming an increasingly popular destination for shoppers. One Works was appointed to optimize the existing commercial floor space and design a new central Food Court extension connected to the main shopping centre, as well as the introduction of a new 500-space parking facility.
The new design ensures that all restaurant activities are concentrated to a leasable area of 3,000 sqm that is defined by an impressive interior plaza to accommodate a diverse range of food and beverage services.
The central space, completely free of pillars, is filled with natural light by a large stained glass domed roof. Stationing areas are configured as separate green islands in order to create a multitude of spaces for a wide variety of experiences.
The theme of sustainability and attention to the environment has characterised this project throughout the design and construction phases. The complex was designed according to the criteria of the prestigious BREEAM International protocol, adopting plant and architectural solutions designed to guarantee both energy and water-sanitary needs, containing maximum consumption and operating costs, and guaranteeing the maintenance of the works over time, flexibility of use and environmental conditions necessary for the performance of activities and the well-being of people.
