The site for the new Intermodal Terminal, located between two parallel railroads, lies in correspondence with the present day rail stations, where an urban presence is legible.
The location presents significant potentials that the design proposals attempts to emphasize by fostering trade and accommodating passenger flows within an intermodal passenger structure. The principle facade frames a well-balanced and structured public square that conveys urban values permitting public life.
The project articulates three elements: the station, the square and the car park. The new bus station consents the simultaneous berthing of 10 buses and furnishes both passenger services and operating offices for the public transport management company.
The square’s pavement strongly characterizes the entire open space together with the well-defined rows of trees. Conceived as a place of transit it will also accommodate, however, temporary stationing activities. Lastly, the underground car park and surface level parking along the railroad tracks complete the intermodal facilities.
