One Works supported airport operators, SACAL, in defining the phased extension of Reggio Calabria Airport to reach both the ambitious sustainability goals and the long-term vision for the airport.
Reggio Calabria Airport, also known as Tito Minniti Strait Airport, was the first Italian airport built in Calabria serving the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria and Messina and is located along the west coast overlooking the strait of Messina.
Representing the heart of the entire airport system, the passenger terminal redesign and expansion will find a sustainable balance with the surrounding environment, become an engine of development for the city, as well as acting as the driving force for regenerating the wider territory.
The phased design will allow passengers to enjoy a quality experience in an environment characterized by comfort, safety, and efficiency, distinguished by a well-designed wayfinding and a clear vision of space. The functional scheme underlying the interior design manifests in the architectural form of the new volumes, materials, and in the efficacy of natural and artificial lighting to create a character for each of the spaces.
Together, all these design elements of the internal and external envelope will strengthen the positive experience of travelers and operators in terms of the quality and reliability of the new airport structure.
