An innovative regeneration project aimed at transforming the area of ex Police Headquarters and the district around viale Ugo Bassi into a new pole of urban life – a park district that will provide a quality, green and sustainable environment for local residents and the entire Rimini community.
One Works was recently appointed by Ariminum Sviluppo Immobiliare (ASI) to design a new living space for the city in an area of 58,000sqm. Despite being located adjacent to the center, the area has been falling into a state of decay for many years and has created a strong sense of insecurity amongst the local residents.
Adopting the highest standards of urban regeneration principles, the new Rimini Life masterplan will be largely characterised by a 13,000sqm green and “pedestrian-friendly” space that will host a range of private and public functions for the community. The design solutions proposed are the result of over a year of consultations with the city community to clearly define the needs expressed and unspoken by a wide range of stakeholders.
Quality, accessibility, sociability, and attention to environmental impact are the elements that have guided the design strategies. The result is a masterplan designed to create a beautiful place to live, capable of providing stability to the needs of all segments of the population, from young people to young families, from the most vulnerable to the elderly, adding a positive contribution to the vocation of Rimini as a living and inclusive, for everyone and for the whole year.
The residential parts respond to the concept of “accessible living” and will have a significant share of public and social housing to meet the housing needs of the most vulnerable groups, young people, young families, and the elderly, in the face of a city real estate market which – according to local research – is seeing a trend of progressive price increases, which risks impoverishing the social fabric.
To enrich the vocation for wellness and holistic wellbeing of the area, the green spaces are designed to prioritise and encourage physical activity for all age groups. The public functions arranged within the park district have also been designed to help enhance the wider city. The new facilities introduced Rimini Life will also include:
Throughout the master plan, a great deal of attention has been given to the environmental impact and sustainable solutions available at all stages of the development. As a new park district, the Rimini Life Masterplan will be driven by a comprehensive green strategy with respect to landscaping, energy consumption, and mobility strategies.
Photovoltaic and geothermal will be privileged sources of energy production for use by the functions of the area, while a series of green roofs, the park, and the widespread presence of vegetation both in the buildings and along the roads will help to minimize the general impact.
The few parking areas will fit harmoniously into the design of the green landscape and will represent hubs of multimodal interchange equipped with charging stations for a range of electric vehicles (i.e. cars, scooters, bicycles) and safe velo-stations for sharing pedal-assisted bicycles, electric scooters, and scooters. This will encourage residents and visitors to adopt more sustainable modes of transport, including ride-sharing schemes, for interurban and periurban travel.
With its equidistance from the historic center of Rimini and the coast, the new district is in the perfect position to positively experiment with sustainable mobility solutions and act as a catalyst for the wider city, including large projects already started by the municipal administrations, such as the Metromare project.
