Shah-Hbshan-Ruwais Railway Depot

Etihad Rail Company launched an international tender to build a 1,200 km railway network that concerned the entire United Arab Emirates, which would also provide a link to the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council. One Works’ assignment, appointed by competitors (a joint venture between Impregilo, Samsung C&T and Tristar Engineering & Construction) regarded the design of depots and offices located along the railway line.

The architectural design keeps in mind the client’s primary request, “the need for attractive and efficient buildings in which staff members identify themselves and their work”.

Two alternative solutions refer to cost issues: one meeting the depots basic needs and another offering more comfort and a higher design quality. Both proposals, however, allow for maximum flexibility, giving the client the possibility to choose and combine solutions to meet the current needs and the future requirements.
