The parking garage project was essential for meeting the urban planning and service standards necessitated by the expansion of the Curno Shopping Center, which includes a new food court. The parking structure is strategically placed in an area previously utilised for surface parking, bordered on two sides by Via Lega Lombarda and adjacent to the shopping center building. The topographical variance between Via Lega Lombarda and the existing parking area has facilitated a design that minimises the building’s visual impact by partially embedding it underground.
The facility spans 9,950 square meters on the ground level and 9,363 square meters on the first floor, providing a total of 768 parking spaces, including 15 spots designated for disabled patrons. The layout has been meticulously planned to eliminate architectural barriers and comply with fire safety regulations, enhancing accessibility from two different levels. This configuration seamlessly integrates the additional parking spaces with the overall parking scheme, facilitating full navigability of the area and improving accessibility. The drive ramps, designed as open-air structures outside the building’s structural perimeter, feature a gentle incline of less than 8%, with pedestrian pathways provided along each ramp.
Materials and components were chosen for their durability, ease of maintenance, and suitability to the project’s context and user needs, with particular attention to the ease of sourcing replacement parts. The use of a Building Information Modelling (BIM) system facilitates efficient maintenance scheduling, reducing operational costs and improving overall project management.
Emphasis on long-term durability led to the selection of materials and construction techniques that are environmentally sustainable and recyclable, particularly the aluminium facade, ensuring the project’s sustainability and minimal environmental impact over its lifecycle.
