Gela Container Terminal

The Municipality of Gela, awarded One Works a preliminary masterplan aimed at implementing a Container Terminal able to intercept the potential flows of goods in transit through the Strait of Sicily.

Today the port of Gela is specialized in bulk liquids cargo, due to the presence of one of the main Italian petrochemical poles, owned by ENI Spa. The progressive divestiture will result in the need to generate productive and employment conversion, therefore the implementation of a new Container Terminal is seen as a significant and possible alternative.

The City Municipality is highly interested in developing a new Container Terminal that, owing to the development of a Distripark and the completion of major rail and road transport infrastructure connections, would also represent a new logistic gateway to Europe. These objectives are also compliant with the European transport strategies, as demonstrated by the extraordinary investments in the works related to the Corridor 1 (Berlin – Palermo).
