Marco Polo Airport will be a complete Intermodal hub in the upcoming years. This strategic step will meet two basic needs: serves the trans-European Corridor that crosses the area, and links the airport to the North-East Euro-Region. This will allow to join up with national railways and road networks in the Venetian Lagoon area.

In order to finalise the Intermodal Node Masterplan, a series of analysis carried out – infrastructural developments, including its correct size, along with new functions on a territorial scale.

Micro and macro traffic models represent the effects on both the regional and local infrastructure. The catchment area reproduces the intervention of the current state as well as future scenarios, including the inward and out-going infrastructural developments.

Combining these analyzes with other related terminal and airside infrastructures, the Master Plan will specify:

  • optimal organization of access to and from the airport, with appropriate separation of the flows and flexibility;
  • identification of the most appropriate functional connections by the different parties;
  • distribution of different functions and related urban planning and construction parameters;
  • preliminary dimensioning of the infrastructure and its possible technical characteristics and typologies;
  • definition of the development phases timing break-down;
  • definition of area ownership reorganization.
