Oneworks appointed for next phase of Bergamo Airport Extension

Following the successful expansion of Bergamo International Airport back in 2010 and 2015 (Lotto 1 + 2), Oneworks together with partners Steam (MEP) and Valentini (Health and Safety), has been awarded the detailed design for the next phase of the terminal extension and refurbishment (Lotto 2 + 4B) to improve the overall experience of the airport whilst meeting growing demand.

As the third busiest international airport in Italy (also known as Orio al Serio International Airport) welcoming over 13 million passengers a year, the airport management firm, SACBO, was required to rethink the efficiency of the existing infrastructure with a refurbishment of some facilities (7,000 sqm) and a further extension of the existing terminal building (15,000 sqm).

Extending towards the east side of the current terminal building, the project includes: a new security area to manage the future pax demand; an expansion of the check-in facilities; a new Duty-Free walk-through area; and an expansion of the non-Schengen boarding area, including a new pier, an extension of the BHS facilities, immigration area and technical/support spaces, and refurbishment of the existing commercial areas. Improvements on the airside will also include reconfiguration and enlargement of the curbside and apron areas.
