The Mykolaiv Shipyard Regeneration Project aims to rejuvenate a former industrial site along Mykolaiv’s waterfront, bolstering Ukraine’s recovery efforts amid recent challenges. As a pivotal pilot project within the Mykolaiv City-wide Masterplan led by One Works, this initiative focuses on economic revitalisation, community well-being, and cultural preservation.
The project integrates a dynamic mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces designed to attract diverse activities and promote social interaction. Central to our design approach is the preservation and adaptive reuse of historical buildings and facilities, including iconic steel warehouse frames and waterfront cranes, which celebrate Mykolaiv’s rich industrial heritage.
Sustainability at the Core
Sustainability is at the heart of our design ethos, with extensive green spaces enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and providing recreational areas for residents and visitors. Pedestrian-friendly pathways, cycle lanes, and efficient public transport options promote eco-friendly mobility, contributing to a healthier urban environment. Additionally, the project incorporates renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines to minimise environmental impact and support the city’s energy sustainability goals.
Enhancing Community Life
The revitalised waterfront will feature vibrant amenities such as shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities, enhancing the quality of life for Mykolaiv’s residents. Plans also include facilities for yacht storage and small-scale shipbuilding, preserving local maritime traditions and fostering entrepreneurial opportunities.
Part of the UN4UkrainianCities initiative led by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the “Deep Blue Transition for Mykolaiv” Programme by the Ukrainian Association of Business Support Centers (UABSC) with support from the European Union and UN Development Programme “Mayors for Economic Growth”, the project underscores international cooperation in rebuilding Ukraine’s urban fabric.
