The five-star luxury hotel, branded as offering “an urban touch with a domestic feeling,” was the result of a successful collaboration between Studio Marco Piva, Alessandro Cesario, Atelier P, Deerns Italia, and One Works.
For the Radisson Collection Hotel, Santa Sofia Milan, One Works played a vital role in the detailed design, site supervision, and managing building authority processes. This five-star hotel is housed in a renovated 1960s building that was formerly the Allianz Italia headquarters. The redevelopment spans eight floors above ground and two basement levels, covering a total of 12,950 square meters.
The intervention involved a complete strip-out phase, completed in 2019, which dismantled all interior elements, including hazardous materials, old systems, and partitions, leaving a clean slate for the new design. Externally, the building’s distinct façades, clad in Euganean trachyte stone, were restored, while original aluminum and glass windows were either preserved or replaced in line with the historical character.
Internally, the hotel’s luxurious amenities include a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool and bar, offering panoramic views of Milan. The fourth floor saw the removal of a pitched roof to create this terrace, enhancing the guest experience. The ground floor, designed for seamless interaction with the urban fabric, houses a restaurant and bar, both open to public foot traffic in line with the area’s transformation and proximity to the new M4 metro stop. This project highlights One Works’ commitment to blending heritage preservation with modern functionality, ensuring that the building’s architectural value is retained while supporting Milan’s urban renewal efforts.
The hotel also features customized design solutions to accommodate modern wellness trends, such as the fitness center and sauna, both integrated into the basement level with sleek, minimalist decor. These spaces, alongside the meticulously designed rooms, are crafted to evoke a sense of urban sophistication while maintaining comfort.
