The north-east expansion of Venice Marco Polo Airport represents the first phase of a multi-stage development, a natural evolution of the terminal’s architectural identity that combines functionality with harmony in the context of the lagoon landscape. The new volume adopts a design language consistent with the existing terminal, preserving its recognisability while enhancing its central role.
The project, spanning four levels and covering a surface area of 14,300 sqm, introduces spacious, light-filled environments, characterised by large glass façades offering passengers privileged views of the aircraft apron and the lagoon. The modular pitched roof defines the profile of the new extension, establishing a dialogue between tradition and modernity, lightness and solidity.
The new Schengen boarding lounges, housed within a contemporary design environment, will provide comfort and smooth passenger flows. Additionally, three new boarding towers, each with dual-level piers, ensure a more dynamic management of passenger movements.
The use of materials such as brick and metal reinforces visual continuity with the existing architecture, while sustainable features, including geothermal probes and photovoltaic panels, underscore a strong commitment to responsible, environmentally conscious design.
Following the successful completion of the Passenger Terminal refurbishment and extension (Lot 1) at Venice Marco Polo Airport, the initial phase of the TL2A expansion is due to be completed in 2026. The final configuration of the terminal will feature two new wings symmetrical to the original body of the airport and will efficiently manage the traffic of over 15 million passengers annually.
